The Rainforest Alliance is concerned with the increased trend around the world of governments proposing and passing anti-LGBTQ laws including in various USA states and many African Nations. Ghana, where the Rainforest Alliance has a large presence, is one of those countries. We are aware of the developing legislation there that would further threaten the safety and well-being of the LGBTQ community and its allies.
We believe that every individual, regardless of their race, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation, must be afforded safety, respect, and equal opportunity. By integrating principles of non-discrimination, respect and inclusivity throughout our work including our certification, training programs, landscape and community initiatives, and engaging in targeted company and government advocacy, we aim to foster environments which are safe and welcoming for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Rainforest Alliance is committed to advancing and protecting the human rights of all people. Though it is our goal to foster a future where rural people everywhere can thrive, including LGBTQ+ individuals, we cannot do it alone. This work requires collaborative, sustained effort across stakeholders, including governments, companies, traders, farmers and forest communities to support and uplift LGBTQ+ communities.
